What's In My Handbag

Yes, there are the obvious items one must always have in their handbag, like cash, credit card, and a quarter to call home in case of emergency. Please dear reader, if you learn anything from me, learn my sarcasm. Love it, embrace it, and we'll get along just fine. Now, back to the essentials for what to always carry in your everyday bag.

This is what is currently in mine. Yes, I neatly arranged the items to look like they gracefully spilled out on the table. I removed two handfuls of waded up receipts, wrappers and items of question. Admit it, you too use your designer bag as a temporary trash can as well.

*Small make-up bag: A small make-up bag will do just fine as long as you keep the basics in it. That's all that should be in it anyway. Use a larger one that's filled with all your products in your bathroom. Your handbag make-up bag should be kept simple. One lipstick at most- that can transition from day to night, a concealer, blush brush with built in color (optional), and if you must an eyeshadow that can also double as an eyeliner. If your make-up bag is a struggle to zip closed, it's not because it's too small. It's because you have too many items in it and you should examine contents. I on average only carry a sheer lipstick, concealer, and pressed powder.
*Facial blotting papers: Perfect for blotting excess oil from your face midday. I use Aburatorigami Blotting Papers by Tatcha. The papers are fragrance and powder free. They do not dry your skin and your make-up will remain beautifully applied.
*A hair band: Basic ones will do just fine. Goody is an inexpensive brand that can be found at any drugstore. Also, Kitsch Hair Ties are a different way to put hair up. It doesn't crease my hair and I find that it ends up around my wrist more times than not.
*Lip balm: I'm a loyal fan of Smith's Rosebud Salve (in tube or jar). Keeps my lips moisturized and I'm quite fond of the rose scent. I often times will use it over lipstick or in place of lipstick, and at night as part of my nightly routine. Also, great on cuticles.
*Health Bar: KIND bars are a great pick me up snack. Comes in a variety of flavors. High protein and high fiber. I recommend the dark chocolate nuts & sea salt. Available at most grocery stores in the health food aisle.
*Hand Cream: I suggest a small tube of your favorite hand cream. Most brands offer small travel sizes. I suggest a brand if you aren't particular that you can find in the travel size section of your local drugstore. Johnson's makes a great economically priced hand cream. Perfect to carry in your handbag and for travel. The one listed in above picture is:
*Breath Mints or Gum: Simply because fresh breath should always be a priority.
Opt for sugar free though. Otherwise, your teeth will have that annoying sugar film and in that case, you might as well carry a toothbrush with built in toothpaste in your bag, which I actually sometimes do.
*Shout Wipes: I use these more than I thought I would. You never know when you'll need them. Easy to find at your local drugstore.
*Small Emery Board: You'll be glad you have it when you need it.

What are items you always carry in your handbag?

  1. Like you, I also really like the Rose Salve. It's good on everything: lips, cuticles, elbows. I also love the hair ties, try the Emi Jay brand. They are pretty awesome!

  2. Let's see, I'm a terrible woman because I don't carry any make-up in my purse. :( I do carry lip balm though, and an emery board, so I should get points for that! Oh yeah, and popcorn when my cousin goes to the movies with me! ;)
